Rodenegg Castle

Rodenegg Castle is a medieval fortress located between Schabs and Mühlbach in the municipality of Rodeneck. It was undoubtedly one of the largest and most powerful castles of its time and has retained its impressive character to this day.


The castle can be visited only with guided tours!

Guided tours take place daily during the summer months (except Saturdays) at 11.30 am and 2.30 pm.

Short description
Rodenegg Castle above the Rienz Gorge is one of the largest fortified castles in South Tyrol and its Iwain frescoes are the oldest wall paintings in the German-speaking area.

Large car park approximately 200 metres away.

Description to arrive at destination
From Mühlbach to Rodeneck, village of Vill, to the car park in front of the parish church.
